Ingredients: Marsha Horowitz gave me this recipe of her grandmothers to go with her lasagne.
garlic powder or minced garlic
2 bay leaves
1 tsp oregano
1 large green pepper chopped in small pcs
1 onion chopped in small pcs
salt and pepper to taste
1 large can of tomato puree
2 cans (family size) tomato paste
1-1/2 lbs of ground beef
Directions:
  1. Brown ground beef, drain, set aside.
  2. Retain some of the liquid fat from meat and saute the following:
    • 1 green pepper cut in small pcs
    • 1 onion cut in small pcs
    • 2 teaspoons salt and sprinkle pepper to taste
    • 2 bay leaves (remove before serving)
    • 1 tsp of oregano
    • 2 cans of tomato paste; stir.
    • >1/2 can of water to each can of paste; stir as needed.
    • 1 can tomato puree
    • Add ground beef.
  3. Let everything simmer on low-medium heat; stir as needed.
  4. Cook 7 hours low heat in slow cooker or 3 hours on high setting (easier method).
  5. On stove, simmer for 3 hours. Avoid letting it boil or stick to bottom; stir frequently.
